YAMASHITA WINS IN CANADA
Miyu Yamashita enjoyed her first trip to Canada when she produced an amazing LPGA Tour equaling low score total of 257 to win the CPKC Women’s Open at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club in Edmondtown, Canada.
The Japanese player fired a 4-under-par 66 in her final round to finish on 23-under-par and was a staggering nine strokes clear of the field, fellow country woman Yuri Yoshida led the chasing pack to take second place with a final round of 69 for 14-under-par.
This was Yamashita’s second win of the year on the LPGA Tour and through an interperator she said, “I’m so happy. (Smiling.) Is it okay to say in Japanese? (Through translation.) So I haven’t been great for this season, but I’m really happy to win in Canada.”
“So a lot of the people came out to support me and I was able to enjoy playing today and throughout the week.”
Unfortunately the Irish contingent of Lauren Walsh, Stephanie Meadow and Leona Maguire all failed to make the weekend in Canada, but will be hoping for a return to form in front of home fans at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open at the K-Club this week.
