World number two Jeeno Thitikul opened with a blistering seven-under-par round of 64 to hold a two shot lead after day one of the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Lytham & St. Annes.

Her 64 which was made with seven birdies and not a single dropped shot is the lowest round ever recorded in the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Lytham & St Annes.

In the history of the Championship, four players have managed rounds of 65 at the venue, but Jeeno’s 64 is the new lowest.

Haeran Ryu, who has claimed each of the previous two majors, is two shots back on five under-par. Japan’s Shiho Kuwaki joins Haeran on the same score.

Yealimi Noh and Celine Boutier are a further shot back at four-under-par after day one.
