England U16s storm to victory against Ireland

England Under 16s romped to a 21.5-8.5 victory over Ireland at Wallasey Golf Club at the weekend.

The Girls won 11.5-3.5 overall while the Boys won 10-5, with Millie Marsh and Maybel Brooks winning all three of their matches played, and Alfie Turner going unbeaten in all three of his matches played.

The Girls edged the Saturday morning foursomes 2-1 while the Boys were under pressure having lost 2.5-0.5, but both teams were in scintillating form in the afternoon singles, both winning 5.5-0.5 as nobody lost a match.

Sunday was a day of solely singles matches, and again, both teams won 4-2 to complete emphatic victories overall.

England Golf Assistant Performance Manager (Female Golf), India Clyburn, said: “It was a great effort by a new young England side. The course was great, and conditions were very nice for the time of year!

“We saw some great golf from both sides and it served as another great match against Ireland.”
